Summer Reads and Happy Father's Day!
As I write this, the sun is shining, the temperature is climbing, and people are out and about strolling East Hampton's beautiful Main Street. What a difference a week makes! We’ve just endured a remarkably long stretch of unseasonably wet, windy, 50-degree weather, which seemed more conducive to hunkering down than venturing out. Fortunately, that's all behind us now - let the venturing begin!
Summer is the perfect time for books and BookHampton is all about summer reads right now. The store is overflowing with the latest and most notable books. Let’s start with paperbacks! Part of the fun of being one year old and having gone through several book-buying seasons, is that we get to welcome back in a paperback version of a book that we first enjoyed in hardcover. It’s a bit of deja vu for us and a second chance for you if you missed the first release in hardcover.
Here are just a few great paperbacks currently available:
Of course, as always, new hardcovers also abound on the front tables. Summer is often a chance to experiment with a genre or an author you haven’t much known before. I’m especially keen on the books below and can’t wait to hear what you think.
Don’t forget that Father’s Day is next Sunday, June 18th, less than one week away. What better gift to give than a book! A front table is piled high with suggestions — these are some that caught my eye:
Portraits of Courage brings together sixty-six full-color portraits and a four-panel mural painted by President Bush of members of the United States military who have served our nation with honor since 9/11—and whom he has come to know personally. This deluxe, oversized edition of the book is signed by the President and cloth-bound with a specially designed slipcover.
Each painting in this meticulously produced hardcover volume is accompanied by the inspiring story of the veteran depicted, written by the President. Readers can see the faces of those who answered the nation’s call and learn from their bravery on the battlefield, their journeys to recovery, and the continued leadership and contributions they are making as civilians.
I hope you are as excited about summer reading as we are here at BookHampton. Our staff has expanded for the summer so you will always find knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and thoughtful booksellers ready to share with you their cherished titles and what our customers are loving.
Here’s to Summer!
See you in the store!
P.S. Let us help you tackle school summer reading! BookHampton will provide students 10% off titles from the approved local school summer reading lists. Our booksellers are at the ready to encourage even the most reluctant readers!
