Spring is Here! Thank Goodness and Thank You!

Dear Reader,

I write this on the first official day of Spring.  I am hopeful the worst of the winter weather is behind us and thank goodness for that!  The shorter days and cooler temperatures have meant that the store has been pretty quiet. And though we knew this would happen, it sure feels different. We are grateful to everyone who has come in and bought books during the winter months. Please know that those of us working in the store were, and continue to be, warmed by your presence!
To thank all the "year-rounders" who visited the store this winter, and those early birds who are venturing out in the Spring weather, please join us for our Super Spring Sales! We will offer 15% off books purchased in the store or on our website every Monday in April - just use coupon code SPRING.
We've used the quieter times this winter to make a few changes in the store and to plan for the months ahead.  I'm very excited as we head into our second Summer season at BookHampton.  I'll be sharing news over the next few months about what's different and what to look forward to. For now, here are some highlights:
The children's section has expanded with more shelves showcasing the fabulously illustrated books adored by kids and parents alike. We'll continue our Sunday morning Story Hour throughout the summer and may add a weekday Story Hour as well.
In addition, we're adding more puzzles, toys, and games for family fun. We tried this out during the holidays and it was a big hit so we are amping up the selection. We'll now have 12 piece, 20 piece, 100 piece, 500 piece, 750 piece and 1,000 piece puzzles -- something for everyone!
We'll also add reading glasses, new motifs on stationery from The Printery, handsome notebooks, and something I'm especially interested in - vintage books of local interest. Just perfect for a gift or your own library! Distinctive, hard-to find, and truly unique.
And speaking of libraries, we've recently launched a new initiative. After working with private clients on libraries of all sizes, BookHampton is now proud to offer its services to individual home owners, organizations, wineries, hotels, local inns, architects, interior designers and marinas. From a simple shelf of classic titles or a stunning coffee table showcasing the latest in art, architecture, and local interest, to a reading room at sea or a floor-to-ceiling home library, we are happy to work closely with you to provide books curated to your preferences. Please contact me or Colin Bertram, Store Manager, to discuss your needs and to set up an initial consultation.

In my next Dear Reader, I'll share news about our Summer Reading School Fundraiser program (Summer reading is right around the corner!) and upcoming author events. We've got a full program ahead of us!

Wow, so much to say here that I barely have time to talk about books!  I've been away most of March and have had the time to read almost every afternoon and evening. This dedicated time for reading is an indulgence in many ways and certainly not easy to do, but I highly recommend it. Here's what I've read and found worthy (a bit heavier on paperbacks since I've been traveling):

Here are some books I didn't quite get to but remain in the queue:
