Margot Shaw, "Living Floral: Entertaining and Decorating with Flowers"
In an event co-hosted with Bridge Hampton Florist Michael Grim, Margot Shaw will discuss her new book Living Floral.
Brimming with top stylemakers' and designers' innovative floral design ideas to enliven the home, Living Floral will resonate with those who appreciate the beauty and everyday luxury of flowers.
For this inspirational, yet instructive, book Margot Shaw presents portraits of top tastemakers at home who share their joy of flowers. From interior designers Charlotte Moss, Suzanne Rheinstein, and Bunny Williams, and event designer Tara Guerard to floral and garden experts Sybil Sylvester and P. Allen Smith and culinary consultant Alex Hitz, these luminaries impart their personal botanical point of view.
They show how to incorporate flowers in home decor and present numerous ways to entertain with flair. Interior designers illustrate how eclectic furnishings work well with floral and botanical accents in fabric, wallpaper, artwork, and accessories to shape chic indoor spaces. We will learn how traditionalists and modernists put together an attractive table; for example, by mixing heirloom silver with simple white china and bright flowers arranged in everyday glass containers.
This gorgeously photographed book concludes with a primer on such topics as extending the life of fresh-cut flowers and assembling a table runner of charming blooms. Living Floral is a must-have for flower and interior design enthusiasts, as well as home gardeners.
A native of Birmingham, Alabama, Margot Shaw (Founder/ Editor-in-Chief FLOWER Magazine) studied Art History at Hollins College in Virginia and Interior Design at the University of Texas. Once a self-confessed “call and order flowers girl”, Shaw reached a watershed moment when planning her daughter’s home wedding. Working alongside the floral and event designer, she recognized the artistry and inspiration involved in “flowering” and soon began apprenticing with the same designer. A few years in, unable to locate a publication that spoke to her passion, she set about creating one.
Flower is a floral lifestyle magazine that inspires, entertains, and educates readers with a point of view that stems from seeing life through a botanical lens. From private and historic houses and gardens to stylish parties to tastemakers in the floral, event, and interiors world,Flower brims with people, places, and things that enrich us all.
Michael Grim has been in love with flowers all his life. Some of his earliest memories as a child date from when he would explore his grandmother’s amazing flower garden in Allentown, PA. Having mastered the basics at horticulture/floriculture school, Michael began his career at the St. Regis New York City. One summer–more than three decades ago–he followed some of his clients from the City to The Hamptons where he met his husband and business partner Jim Osburn. Michael never returned to NYC, making his permanent home on the East End where he and Jim opened the Bridgehampton Florist in 1986. Michael says the largest part of their business “is filling the most beautiful homes with fresh flowers on a weekly basis.”
