Local & Independent Author Educational Session

Local and Independent Author Educational Session featuring Penguin Random House Editor Peter Gethers

BookHampton was thrilled by the support of our local community upon our re-opening earlier this summer. Now, it’s our turn to give back to our Local and Independent Author community.  We look forward to hosting local author events throughout the year and to kick-off our local author programming, we’ve invited Penguin Random House editor Peter Gethers for a fantastic educational session about publishing- both traditionally and independently.

(Sometimes) writing is the easy part – it’s the marketing, outreach, and book sales that can be hard!  Peter has tons of advice based on years of experience in the publishing industry.  Join us for an engaging and productive conversation about what it means to be an “independent” author.

Peter Gethers is President of Random House Studio and, after many years as a Senior VP/Editor-at-Large for Penguin Random House, is now an editorial and publishing consultant for the Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group.  He has written screenplays, working with Roman Polanski and William Goldman, among many others.  He has written and produced several TV series, including “Kate & Allie;” is the author of 12 books, including the bestselling trilogy about his amazing Scottish Fold cat Norton and five internationally bestselling thrillers under the pseudonym Russell Andrews; and is the co-author of the hit off-Broadway play “Old Jews Telling Jokes” that is now touring the United States.  He was also the co-creator of the Encores/City Center/Jazz at Lincoln Center production of “A Bed and a Chair,” bringing together the talents of Stephen Sondheim and Wynton Marsalis for the first time.  In various capacities for Penguin Random House, he has edited books by Stephen Sondheim, Barbara Walters, Caroline Kennedy, Robert Hughes, Bill James, Lidia Bastianich, Carl Hiaasen, William Goldman, David Nicholls, Jimmy Carter, Nancy Silverton, Suzanne Goin, Kitty Kelley, Stephanie Danler and Tom Hanks, among many others.  His new book, a work of non-fiction, My Mother’s Kitchen: A Search for the Meaning of Family, Food and Life, will be published by Holt in May 2017.
