Independent Bookstore Day 2017!

Consumers control the marketplace by deciding where to spend their money.

If what a bookstore offers matters to you, then shop at a bookstore.

If you feel that the experience of reading a book is valuable, then read the book. This is how we change the world: we grab hold of it. We change ourselves.

―Ann Patchett, author and co-owner of Parnassus Books

Come celebrate Independent Bookstore Day on Saturday, April 29th!

Independent Bookstore Day (IBD) is a celebration of books, readers, and indie bookselling. Join us throughout the day for raffles, giveaways, a literary Scavenger Hunt, and much more!

BookHampton will offer exclusive day-of merchandise created especially for Independent Bookstore Day by major publishers and authors. Since its inception in 2014, more than 120 authors have demonstrated their support for independent bookstores by donating work for Bookstore Day.

A selection of exclusive books and art pieces will be available at BookHampton for Bookstore Day 2017. These limited edition, unique items will be available only on April 29. Not before. Not online. And not in chain stores!

Exclusive Items:

$6 Story: The Sandmeyer Reaction

The second edition in our on-going $6 Stories series is a short story that was cut from Michael Chabon’s newest novel, Moonglow. It’s a hilarious side-story of the half-baked plan to catch a German spy via the well-connected Jews of Philadelphia’s underbelly in the 1940s. In typical Chabon style, it’s fast and funny, and bursting with a cast of perfectly rendered outcasts and oddballs.

Michael Chabon is the bestselling and Pulitzer Prize-winning author of The Mysteries of Pittsburgh, Wonder Boys, The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay, Summerland, The Yiddish Policemen’s Union, Telegraph Avenue, Moonglow, and many others. He lives in California with his wife, novelist Ayelet Waldman, and their children.

Bad Citizen Stencil by Henry Louis Gates Jr.

Specs: 12” x 16” on 1⁄8” red oak board with detailed laser cutting

Every year we create our signature “Bad Citizen” Graffiti Stencil to highlight the authors and the words that push us to think, read, and be disruptive when necessary. This year’s stencil features a quote from professor Henry Louis Gates Jr.: "CENSORSHIP IS TO ART AS LYNCHING IS TO JUSTICE."
