Nelson’s second novel is a gem! His first novel, Open Water, was a tender love story. Small Worlds, set over three summers in Chana and London, is the story of self-discovery for Stephen, a first-generation Londoner born to Ghanian immigrant parents. Torn between his first love, music, and a more conventional track of a university degree, his world, family relationships, and first love are pressured as he searches for a place to be free. Nelson writes in the sensitive, poetic and lyrical prose — he’s one of the best writers of a new generation.
