Top Books for Young Readers!
The Fall season is the time for publishers to present their top books for younger readers and there is a wonderful selection this year for every age group.
For Little Ones
ABC Pop-Up is a great twist on the classic alphabet book, with stunning paper designs all in a bright little box.
After the Fall (How Humpty Dumpty Got Back Up Again), by Dan Santat, imagines what happened after poor Humpty fell down. It’s a story of gumption and conquering fear with a surprising ending. Fabulous illustrations by this Caldecott winning artist complete the package.
An ocean adventure starring a curious fox and his crew of deer, Dashka Slater’s The Antlered Ship is full of vivid images by the celebrated Terry and Eric Fan. Some of the prettiest illustrations I have come across this season
For Middle Grade Readers
My favorite book of the season, The Purloining of Prince Oleomargarine, is based on an unpublished story by Mark Twain. Discovered in unfinished form, it has been completed and illustrated by husband and wife team Erin and Philip Stead. The story is set in 19th century Paris and features a young boy and his animal friends who must rescue a prince. Wit and whimsy worthy of the great humorist.
And speaking of humor, especially of the nonsense variety, Shel Silverstein is back with Runny Babbit Returns, the beloved character, and over 40 new poems in this very ‘billy sook’! This book will totally appeal to kids of all ages.
For 10+ and YA Readers
Genuine Fraud delivers psychological suspense from the author of the wildly popular We Were Liars (we have a newdeluxe edition of the latter, buy them together!). This story of a tough heroine has something for everyone: romance, murder, disappearing characters, and intriguing mystery. Girl power!
For Non-Fiction Readers of Every Age Group
A spectacular picture book, Book of Bones presents ten animals that have broken anatomy records - entertaining material for curious, up to 10-year-old readers. Also great for science nerds and animal lovers, it is illustrated with stunning black and white and color images showing why these animals rate in the top ten.
Her Right Foot is a local New York story by one of our most important writers, Dave Eggers. Little known facts about this well-known, iconic monument provide a history lesson—as we are reminded that what the Statue of Liberty stands for is more resonant today than ever before.
Games and Puzzles
Everyone loves Mo Willems and these soft toy characters of Pigeon and Duckling, plusfinger puppets and best of all, bookends of Elephant and Piggie will please your little ones and early readers. Irresistible!
Speaking of elephants, we have a sweet, simply designed wooden Elephant Xylophone, as well as wooden stroller books that have a clever fabric attachment to make sure they don’t get separated from your enthusiastic toddler.
Have you seen these colorful, boldly designed puzzle sticks? These have 24 vibrant pieces. And our new tin canister puzzles are filled with 64 pieces and have a slot in the lids so the tins can be reused as beautifully printed coin banks. They don’t take up much room, either!
Any and all of our offerings can be put together in a woven basket wrapped in cellophane for a great-looking holiday (or birthday) gift and/or displayed in our new gorgeous canvas bins. They are striking, durable, and elegantly designed - great for storage and a truly beautiful addition to any playroom, bedroom, or shelf. We are also happy to make selections on your behalf by age group to create a personalized gift.
