Situated in the village of East Hampton on Long Island, BookHampton provides a vibrant year-round environment for discovering books that intrigue, amuse, educate, and inspire. SHIPPER/RECEIVER

We are now hiring a Shipper/Receiver for our busy retail location.

Responsibilities:

  • Manages the shipment and receipt of all products, materials, orders, and supplies.
  • Tracks, traces, and updates the status of incoming and outgoing shipments.
  • Promptly unloads trucks and deliveries and sorts and stocks receivables.
  • Pack and prepare materials for return to suppliers due to overstock, damage, or defect.
  • Prepare all receiving reports and liaising with shipping companies and suppliers.
  • Assist with pricing/inventory in the inventory/point of sale system; price ticketing as needed.
  • Stock and restock as needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • Attention to detail.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be comfortable standing for extended periods of time, have the ability to lift 70lbs, and reach high shelves.
  • Multi-tasking: This position includes a variety of tasks, so being able to multi-task and to prioritize tasks is very important.
  • Strong sense of time organization and urgency.
  • Able to work independently and within a team.
  • Equivalent working experience ideal.
  • Part-time, year-round position.

BOOKSELLER (part-time and full-time)

Applicants will share enthusiasm for bookselling! You must read broadly and LOVE books! You will provide exceptional customer service by recommending, discussing, and selling books and unique gift merchandise. Additional tasks include answering phones; assisting customers via phone or in person, assist vendors, take detailed messages as needed; and help maintain the general appearance and organization of the store.

Skills Requirements:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Retail experience a must, bookselling experience a plus!
  • Broad knowledge of literature, arts, and culture
  • Strong computer skills including familiarity with Microsoft Office and Point of Sale/cash register systems.
  • Digitally savvy a plus (social media and web)
  • Must have the ability to lift, reach (shelve books), and comfortably stand for long time periods.
